Wildlife and Farm Animal
Rehabilitation Centre & Sanctuary

Rescue. Rehabilitate. Release. Provide sanctuary for those who cannot return to the wild.

“Some of our scars carry little meaning, but some have a lot to say,
whether to our shame or our glory, depending on the injury.
Scars must mean they are not a defect, but a glory. (Luke 24:39–40)”

The five Freedoms

some images ON THIS WEBSITE are for illustrative purposes

1

Freedom from hunger and thirst – by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.

2

Freedom from discomfort – by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

3

Freedom from pain, injury, or disease – by prevention, rapid diagnosis, and treatment

4

Freedom to express normal behavior – by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of animal kind

5

Freedom from fear and distress – by ensuring conditions and treatment that avoid mental suffering.

What We Do

  • Wildlife Translocation: Relocating animals to safer habitats to prevent inbreeding, overpopulation, and habitat loss.

  • Invasive Fish Control: Removing species like grass carp and tilapia to protect native biodiversity, while providing food to communities.

  • Wildlife Rehabilitation: Professional care for sick, injured, and orphaned animals, following Cape Nature guidelines.

  • Farm Animal Rescue: Taking in neglected farm animals and providing proper nutrition, shelter, and medical care.

  • Horse Rescue & Rehoming: Rehabilitation, training, and rehoming of mistreated horses, with funds reinvested into care.

SCAR provides a permanent, registered facility for wildlife, farm animals, and horses in need of care. Without SCAR, animals risk starvation or unsafe human intervention.

  • 33 years of successful wildlife translocation

  • Active invasive fish projects

  • Collaborations with vets and conservationists

  • Sanctuary for unreleasable animals
